Cuticle Knife
This guide will serve as a guide on the types, uses and procedures for use of a cuticle knife. Some people don’t use cuticle
knives in their manicure procedures however I personally feel that its one of the tools that is necessary for a perfect manicure, without this
tool it is almost impossible to properly manipulate the cuticle and remove any dead skin or cuticles properly.

The main purpose of the cuticle knife is as its name suggests, is to remove any dead cuticle or skin that is still attached to
the nail. It is made to actually carve the cuticle out so that the cut is clean and looks natural while also cutting any dead skin at the tip of
the cuticle that can’t be removed by nail cutters.
I strongly recommend the use of cuticle knives, not only because it makes the manipulation cuticle and dead skin much easier,
it’s also a much more precise tool when it come to removing cuticles or built up dead skin. Another added advantage of using this tool is that it
is if used properly in removing dead skin or cuticles, the chances of the dead skin or cuticle growing back in its ugly state is significantly
reduced because of the clean cuts.
There are many variations of cuticle knives however they basically fall into two different categories, removable blade types
and non-removable blade types. I personally recommend using removable blade types as it isn’t as wasteful if your blade becomes dull and has to
be replaced instead of throwing away the whole knife. It is of particular interest also the sharpness of the blade, please note that cuticle
knives aren’t particularly sharp; these knives are designed that way so that it cuts through the cuticle with ease without risking cutting
through the nail. Blunt cuticle knives are of particular concern as they risk pulling the cuticle or dead skin causing bleeding and
deformation.
As with any equipment used on the human body that has a chance of penetrating the skin, cuticle knives must be thoroughly
disinfected before use by another person. To disinfect the knives, ensure that any skin or cuticle bits that are left on the knife are removed
then completely immersed in disinfectant liquids like alcohol or acids.
