Cuticle Oil
A lot of people have come to me asking me what cuticle oil is. Very few people understand the concept of it while even less understand the proper use of it, especially in the manicure industry. Firstly the main purpose of cuticle cream is to “deep moisturize” not only cuticles but skin and also nail. The cuticle oil’s make up should be of many types of oils which are designed to be absorbed quickly into the skin or nails to provide “emergency moisturizing”.

Under normal circumstances I recommend that people should use normal hand and nail moisturizing creams and not go straight into cuticle oils. The first reason you should not use cuticle oils for normal moisturizing is that the skin and nails can actually adapt to having cuticle oils applied on them regularly. As a result they will be more prone to cracking and drying up if you do not upkeep them with the cuticle oils all the time. Secondly cuticle oils are quite expensive if you compare them with normal moisturizers and are also rather messier because of the oily nature.
Rather the situation that calls for cuticle oils are when you actually have chronic nail and cuticle separation because the cuticle is too dry to attach to the nail or if your nail is so dry that it is cracking and splitting. These situations can happen if the area that you are is extremely dry and cold to the point that your nails, skin and cuticles aren’t used to it. In this case you need the cuticle oil to deeply moisturize the skin, nails and cuticles so the cuticle can attach back to the nail, and the nail and skin can stop cracking.
The constituent of cuticle oil is particularly important if you want it to work the way it should. The oils used in cuticle oils firstly must be very thin and of an organic sort origin. The most common types of oils used for cuticle oils are combination of vegetable oils enriched with Vitamins. The most common oil used flaxseed oil which is then infused with citric acids which help to make the oils more absorbent.
When using cuticle oil it’s important to understand how to use it, you must remember that it’s very potent and that only a small amount is necessary to give the deep moisturizing necessary. Don’t overcoat the nails and cuticles as it will become very messy if you start touching things.
Sometime Cuticle Oils come in the form of “cuticle oil pens” which basically work like markers and give you the ability to “draw” the oil into affected areas. This is very effective and if you have the chance you should buy cuticle oils that come in this type of packaging because it is significantly easier to apply.
