Hand Cream

Hand Creams or Hand Moisturizers can be used interchangeably in the manicure context. Both of them have the same purpose to moisturize and nourish the skin of the hands and nails. Hand creams or Moisturizers are complex mixtures of chemical agents specially designed to make the external layers of the skin (epidermis) softer and more pliable, by actively increasing its hydration, meaning to actually put more water into the surface of the skin.

Hand cream or moisturizers are generally made from very simple ingredients such as artificial and natural oils combined with humectants, emollients along with some natural fragrance and minerals. Most hand creams used for manicure services come in large industrial sized bottles and as such are just the bare minimums when it comes to the nourishment of the skin and nails. Most other types of higher grade hand creams or moisturizers have added ingredients like essential vitamins and minerals which will further nourish the skin and also the nails.

Besides providing or increasing levels of hydration to the skin, hand creams or moisturizers can have several other benefits that most would not even know about. Firstly, a layer of hand cream effectively acts as a barrier against the loss of water through the epidermis which again aids in the repair of previously damaged skin. By providing these barriers hand creams can also provide an effective protection against environmental aggressions or excessive sun exposure.

Hand creams and moisturizers should be used along with proper massages on the hand in order to get a complete manicure service. The massaging should be from the wrist to the fingers which will push blood to the tips of the fingers. The manicurist should ensure that the nail cream is left on the skin for a minimum of 10 minutes. Sometimes moisturizers might actually be washed off after that time to prepare for other treatments.
