Nail Clippers

There are basically two types of nail clippers on the market today that are actively used by almost everyone in the manicure industry. The two types are the scissor type and the guillotine type. Both types have their advantages and should be used together to shape the nail properly.

The guillotine type of nail clipper should be the first choice of nail clippers to use when you want to cut the finger nails. The guillotine type is normally curved so that I better fits the shape of finger nails however smaller finger nails will not get a proper trim from these type of nail clippers as they don’t offer the detailed cut lines that are necessary for a close cut especially around the tips of the nail near the cuticle area.

The scissor type of nail clipper should be reserved for trimming the finer details at the sides of the nail and near the cuticles after the guillotine type has been used to cut the nail to its desired length. Scissor type nail clipper should not be mistaken for cuticle cutters are their function is quite different, you should never use one for the other.

It is vitally important in the upkeep of nail cutters that all of them should be sharp at the blade. The blades must be sharp so that nails can be cut thoroughly and cleanly. If the blade isn’t sharp there is a chance that after cutting, some parts of the nail may still be attached to the main nail and may result in you pulling on the main nail or the cuticle causing damage. Likewise, a nail clipper that isn’t sharp will also create uneven cuts making the nail look very unattractive and hard to work on.

It is also vitally important to keep nail clippers clean. Many people don’t clean the nail clipper before and after use. This is also recommended if you don’t share the nail clippers with anyone else as old skin or flesh may remain on the nail clipper may become the ideal place in which bacteria and viruses may grow. Nail clippers are inherently risky is dirty because they can break the skin and introduce bacteria or viruses that will cause disease. Clean the nail clippers by immersing them in disinfectants.
